SCAD x HARBOR

Week 1

This quarter, our focus is on the concept of "Luxe" in product design. Our team brainstormed some ideas about the speakers, beauty and jewelry.

We chose the Cartier Love bracelet - and we named out team Cartier.

Here's our team members:

Ben Jones - Virtual Production

Yoolji Lee - Lighting / Compositing

Duck - 3D / Look Development / Virtual Production

Ben Mauney - FX

Ella Chiu - FX

Since we are working on the bracelet, I looked up some references for the effects that I could do.

Here's one reference from Frame48, they are doing this for Cartier.

I could use vellum and pyro to do this kind of effects, and create disintegration effects on the edge.

Effects idea1

My 1st idea is to have a silk-like ribbon flowing and wrapping around, eventually transforming into the bracelet. The ribbon should feel soft, light, and elegant, with a smooth motion that gradually turns into the bracelet itself.

Another idea is similar but uses particles that gather and swirl dynamically, then gradually form into the shape of the bracelet. The transition should feel organic and energetic, as if the particles are magnetically coming together.

Here's idea2 reference:

My second idea is about molten gold flowing down from above. The liquid gold drips and spreads as it falls, creating a sense of fluidity and elegance. Eventually, the gold wraps around the wrist, solidifying into the form of a bracelet.

We decided to go with the first idea for our FX since our team doesn't have a particularly strong compositor, and this approach would make compositing easier.

Here's the flipbook of my first previs - particle growth simulation.

Here's the flipbook of my second previs - vellum/cloth simulation.

Here's the flipbook of my third previs - I add the peel simulation.
